Stockport is a town with a population of over 290,000. It was once famous for its production of hats, however, nowadays it is renowned as a buzzing entertainment scene. The area has a fascinating history and obvious potential to keep improving. However, like many small towns, it occasionally has a problem with moving out of the shadow of a nearby city: Manchester.
There is plenty of evidence that it’s starting to establish itself as a worthy competition against Manchester, so here are a few ways that Stockport is reaching its newfound potential.
You can enjoy a great night out in Stockport
One thing Stockport offers is a great night out. If you enjoy a game of bingo, you’ll have plenty of options. Bada Bingo has exploded in popularity throughout the area. It provides the players with a classic game but adds a layer of music and glamor. The Bada Bingo party is held at Buzz Bingo Stockport and attracts fans from all over the UK and the world. An aspect of this game that is worth noting is it’s the kind of event that can move people from their smartphones and computers to the bingo hall. There has recently been an explosion of bingo games that are playable online.
Another place worth visiting is The Plaza. This has also started to attract people from the area and beyond. Upcoming shows include stand-up comedy sets from the likes of Romesh Ranganathan and Ed Byrne. National entertainers coming to the area certainly shows how highly people regard it across different industries.
An explosion of new music
Ever since the Madchester era, the center of Manchester has become famous for its music scene. Some of the surrounding areas are starting to establish their own scenes. One of the best bands to come out of Stockport in recent years has been Blossoms. They have been praised for their energetic live performances, with one of their best being a hometown show at Edgeley Park in 2019. Since their first album in 2015, they have started to fly the flag for the area.
Another interesting band from the area is Fuzzy Sun. Whilst they have not quite gained the success and following of Blossoms, they have impressed fans and critics alike. In 2019, some were touting them as one of Great Britain’s most exciting bands. Both bands will appreciate the backing they have from the area. Having the committed following from a town passionate to see their people succeed could be important as they develop their identity.
Stockport’s future
Back in 2017, one resident spoke in the Manchester Evening News about the huge regeneration in the area. It talks about many property developers converting residential apartments and a thriving food and drink scene that is the envy of other places across Greater Manchester. Regardless of how you want to spend your time, plenty is happening to suit all tastes. In terms of the future, many see the area as one that embraces its history. It is also looking to make the most of its potential. A band like Blossoms taking the next step to becoming icons across the United Kingdom and the rest of the world will be a huge positive for the area.
