No matter what industry you are in, being a leader can be tough and at times, very intense. It is no secret that those who suffer mostly from stress and and overproduction of cortisol are those who work as leaders, and that is why it is so important to take breaks. Many believe that a weekend away every couple of months will do the trick, yet whilst this is necessary it doesn’t really do much good on a day-to-day basis. What we need is 10 minute breaks, and to use them in the right way to take our mind completely off the job, and here are some ideas on how to use those breaks.
Meditation
Remember that the key to using these breaks well is to completely switch off from your work, and that is why meditation is such a great option. There is no method of ‘getting away’ which can rival meditation, the ultimate way to take time out. Find a quiet corner, sit upright on the floor and simply take deep breaths, focussing on the movement of the body and not allowing thoughts to fill your mind. The more you do this the better you will become and soon those ten minutes will be filled with nothingness, the perfect way to reenergize you.
Playing Games
Playing games online when there is work to do may some unhelpful but the reality could not be more different. When you play games you occupy your mind with something fun, challenging and rewarding, this helps you to switch the focus away from work, in order to be more focused when you get back to it. Whether you are playing retro games online or casino games on the Casimba website, anything which engages you enough to stop thinking about work will be enough.
Exercise
There is a lot which you can achieve in a 10 minute break and exercise could very well form a key part of it. There is little point getting too worked up as you won’t have time for a full exercise, recovery and a shower. Instead you can look to do some bodyweight training such as doing press-ups, sit-ups or burpees and squats. All of these strength exercise will help you to stay in shape and to take your mind off the job for a little while, so that you can recharge the batteries.
Reading Fiction
Opening up a book of fiction for just 10 minutes can certainly help to take your mind elsewhere whilst still helping you to keep your brain sharp. This will offer a workout for your mind and although you will still be using it a great deal, there will be no fatigue or tiredness once you switch the focus back to your work. In fact there are many who find great peace in reading tales of fiction and it is certainly something which is going to help you stay at your best.
Ten minutes every few hours is all it takes to keep stress levels down and performance levels high.
