Pam Jahnke to speak at Rural Life Days

To recognize the hard work, dedication and stewardship of those who care for the land and pray for a fruitful, safe farming season, the Diocese of Green Bay is hosting Rural Life Days.

Bishop David L. Ricken will celebrate the March 22 Mass at 10:30 a.m. at Shawano’s Sacred Heart Catholic Parish. These events will also include a special blessing, luncheon and keynote address.

“The festivities include the blessing of soil, seeds, machinery and animals, which are all vital parts of a prosperous agricultural year,” Ricken said.

Keynote speaker Pam Jahnke was raised on her family’s 200-acre dairy farm and learned the farm work ethic first hand. After studying broadcast journalism and broad area agriculture at University of Wisconsin-River Falls, Jahnke accepted a position as farm director in Madison. Since 1990, she has grown her farm broadcast presence from a single Madison station to her WI Farm Report Network — which encompasses 23 radio signals and daily reports on Madison’s CBS TV affiliate. She was named Farm Broadcaster of the Year by the National Association of Farm Broadcasting.

Rural Life Days events are open to all, and tickets are not necessary for those only attending Mass. Luncheon tickets are $10 and should be purchased at least seven days in advance by submitting cash or a check made out to the host parish with Rural Life Day 2018 in the memo line.
