LaVerna Krause Barrick

LaVerna Krause Barrick, 88, of Shawano, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, in Shawano. Born on Oct. 7, 1929, in Shawano, she was the daughter of the late Jewel and Myrtle (Raasch) Raddant. LaVerna graduated from Shawano High School and attended St. Mary’s School in Green Bay for nursing. On Oct. 3, 1953, she was united in marriage to Robert J. Krause at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Leopolis. Robert preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 1986. On Dec. 2, 2000, LaVerna married Donald L. Barrick in Chandler, Arizona. He preceded her in death on April 5, 2017. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Zachow, where she was part of the Ladies Aide and LWML. LaVerna was also an auxilary member of International Gideons, past president of Shawano Camp, State Widow Coordinator and the past chairman of Shawano Christian Women.

LaVerna is survived by her children, Kathy (Warren) Behnke and their children, Aaron (Alison) Behnke, Paul (Nicole) Behnke and Alissa (Aaron) Brandt, Robert (Doreen) Krause and their children, Robert Krause, Ryan Krause and Joey (Jenna) Krause, and Tom (Laurie) Krause and their children, Dustin (Megan) Krause, Nick (Fiancée, Megan) Krause and Logan Krause; her stepchildren, Gregory (Llynore) Barrick and Karla (Ron) Izzett; great-grandchildren, Ava, Abby, Ethan, James, David, Selah, Jackson, Gabi, Maklynn and Karsyn; four step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; her siblings, Carol (Ike) Hoffman; JoAnn (Gene) Wood, Bernette (Wally) Schultz, Janalee (Terry) Brooks, Jewel (Sharon) Raddant and Larry (Retta) Raddant; and special friend, Myrtle Gayhart, who adopted LaVerna as “Ma.”

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Krause; her second husband, Donald Barrick; her parents; three brothers, Reggie, Vernon and Leland; and one sister, Darlene.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church in Zachow with the Rev. Richard Buhrke officiating. Visitation will be held at Swedberg Wendt Funeral Home in Bonduel from 4-7 p.m. on Friday and again at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
