Teens rescued from leaky paddle-boat

Two Seymour teens found themselves stranded knee-deep in marshy water in the Navarino Wildlife Area Sunday, according to the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department.

The boys, ages 16 and 17, went out in a paddle-boat and discovered too late that the boat was leaking, authorities said.

The boat sank, but the boys were able to call 911 and authorities responded to the scene at about 5:15 p.m. They used a flashlight to signal their location to rescuers. The boys were able to stand on the submerged boat until firefighters and emergency responders were able to reach them by rowboat.

Sheriff’s deputies were assisted by Wisconsin State Patrol, Navarino Fire and EMS and Clintonville Ambulance.
