Rewriting Hawks history

SHEBOYGAN The Shawano wrestling team had a historic day on Saturday wrestling in the Raider Invite as senior Rocky DeLorme became the Hawks all-time winningest wrestler surpassing Jerry Henn's win total of 114.

DeLorme picked up four wins in the 125 pound division to reach 116 total wins for his career. Unfortunately for DeLorme, however, his winning streak of 29 straight matches came to an end as well, as he lost his first match of the season in the finals. He lost a 4-2 decision to Seymour's Victor Hernandez to finish in second place in the meet. DeLorme is now 29-1 on the year and will get a chance to face Hernandez again when Seymour comes to Shawano on Feb. 3 for a Bay Conference match.

The Hawks also had another second-place finisher in Luke Hoffman in the 140 pound division. Hoffman took second place when he lost to Stevens Point's Ty Popp with a pin in 2:47 in the finals.

In the 135 pound division Charlie Henn took fourth place for the Hawks. AS a team Shawano finished in fifth place in Division 1 with 79 points, while Stevens Point won the division with 192 points. The Bay Conference's Seymour won the Division 2 meet with 213.5 points.

The Hawks will return to dual match action when they host Bay Port in a Bay Conference match on Jan. 27. the Hawks will then close out their regular season with another home match by hosting Seymour on Feb. 3. Shawano will also be a host for regional competition on Feb. 12.
