MARION The Marion girls basketball team used a big 13-2 run in the third period to pull away from Weyauwega-Fremont Friday night on their way to an important 46-38 CWL Conference win. The win keeps the Mustangs atop the CWL standings a half-game ahead of Bonduel.

Jenny Korth led the way for the Mustangs scoring a game-high 26 points in the win.

The two teams played to a 13-13 tie after the first period, but the Mustangs were able to grab a two-point lead heading into halftime.

In the second half, the Mustangs took control of the game with their third quarter run. Weyauwega tried to make a run of their own in the fourth period but Marion was able to hold off the charge to win the game, despite being outscored 13-8 in the fourth quarter.

Marion (8-3, 6-1) will next travel to Shiocton Jan. 21 for their next game hoping to keep their hold on the CWL's top spot.
