Mild weather greets hunters

Jed Hopp of Shawano spent Saturday, the opening day of Wisconsin's gun-deer season, recording the ages of deer being registered at Qualheim's True Value in Shawano - one of eight deer registration stations in Shawano County.<br /><br /><!-- 1upcrlf2 -->Hopp is a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources wildlife technician. The data gathered by Hopp will help the DNR develop more accurate deer population estimates.<br /><br /><!-- 1upcrlf2 -->"This is my first time aging at this station," Hopp said.

Young Bonduel has big goals

Young Bonduel has big goals

The Bonduel girls basketball team is going to be young this season.

There are currently 11 freshman among the 21 girls out for the team.

"There's going to be a big learning curve," Bonduel girls basketball coach Melissa Dowden said.

The team held its first practice Wednesday, and Dowden said the varsity practice was a bit of a shock for the younger girls.

"There were girls tipping over," she said. "I'm like, 'Really? It's not middle school anymore.'"
