Students resurrect classic terror tale

<p>Just in time to conjure up some spookiness for the Halloween season, Shawano Community High School's Theater Department will showcase a classic haunted house story in its fall play "The Haunting of Hill House."</p><p>"This was something the kids really wanted to do, and it provides some really good challenges for the actors," said director Mark Otte, theater manager and English teacher at SCHS.

Shawano Community High School

The fall athletic banquet will be at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Gathering in Shawano. Tickets are on sale for $12 each in the high school office. The Shawano Athletic Booster Club will sponsor the cost of the lettering athletes' meals.

The winter sports meeting will be at 6 p.m. Monday in the high school auditorium.

This week, during the resource period from 7:20-7:40 a.m., the following clubs will be conducting morning meetings: FBLA, Student Council, Spanish Club and Math Club.

"This was something the kids really wanted to do, and it provides some really good challenges for the actors," said director Mark Otte, theater manager and English teacher at SCHS. "It's a very character-driven play, where everything the actors say has some insight into their character."

School Notes

<p style="text-align:center;">Shawano Community High School</p><p>The American Legion sponsors a public speaking contest every year and preparations begin soon. Contest levels are local, district, state and national. The contest consists of two parts dealing with the Constitution, a prepared speech and an extemporaneous portion. The speech is given in January. Preparations begin mid-October. If interested please see Dr. Grams in Room 1113 by next Friday.</p><p>WKCE testing will take place Nov. 1-2 and Nov. 8-9.
