Sheryl Lynn (Lyons) Hanson

Sheryl Lynn (Lyons) Hanson passed away on Dec. 23, 2018 at her home in Shawano after a long struggle with cancer. Sher was a strong woman of faith and will forever be in peace with the Lord Jesus Christ. Christ the Rock Community Church of Neenah was a place of worship for Sher.

Sher touched everyone she came into contact with. Her soft-spoken nature was evident to all who knew her. Sher met the love of her life, Mike Hanson in 1975 and celebrated over 39 years of marriage. Sher was the most amazing person Mike had ever met in his life. She was the love of his life and his best friend. They enjoyed trips to Florida, cruises, and especially a most amazing pilgrimage to Israel. Sher also enjoyed trips to Crandon to visit with her brother, Dave, and family. Sher deeply cared for Mike and was always available to care for Mike’s mother, Donna. Donna often said that Sher was her daughter and she loved her dearly.

Lee Harley Smith

Lee Harley Smith, 85, of Shawano, died on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2018. Born on April 29, 1933 in Black Creek, he is the son of the late Glen and Anna (Wagner) Smith. Lee was united in marriage to Agnes M. Nauman on Oct. 18, 1958, in Sturgeon Bay. He drove truck, along with school and charter buses for many years. Lee enjoyed farming as well as reading, and was a member of Jehovah Witnesses-Kingdom Hall in Shawano.

Lee is survived by his wife, Agnes; two sons, Randy (Jodi) Smith, of Bonduel, and Kevin (Ann) Smith, of Forest Junction; seven grandchildren, Steven (Jennie) Smith, Scott (Megan) Smith, Becky (Josh) Beyer, Erik (Alex) Smith, Ben (significant other Miranda Schuster) Smith, Cassandra (Dillion) Kuettel and Nathaniel Smith; seven great-grandchildren; and five siblings, Tom, Jack, Bob, Darlene and Judy.

Mandy Lynn LaMarsh

Mandy Lynn LaMarsh, 49, of Shawano, passed away at her home on Christmas Day, surrounded by her family.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday from 1-3 p.m. at the Four Seasons in Shawano. Donations may be directed to the Shawano County Humane Society.

Scott M. Fazendin

Scott M. Fazendin, age 59, of Kaukauna, passed away Dec. 23, 2018, after a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Deloris J. Thiel

Deloris J. Thiel, 80, of Shawano, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, at her home.

Born on Sept. 24, 1938, in Harriman, Tennessee, Deloris was the daughter of the late Dillard and Audrey (Hamilton) Keeney. She was raised by her grandparents, Vernia and Jasper Keeney. Deloris was united in marriage to Oscar Thiel on July 8, 1956, in Ottumwa, Iowa. Oscar preceded her in death on Dec. 14, 1995. Deloris has lived in Shawano since 1960. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and enjoyed the Green Bay Packers, watching wildlife and spending time with her children, grandchildren and her lovely pups, Pudge and Little Chit.

Deloris is survived by her four children, Teresa (Leroy) Nelson, of Pulaski, Butch (Roxanne) Thiel, of Shawano, Tina (Justin) Dickson, of Shawano, and Tami (John) Busch, of DePere. She is further survived by 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

David John Pieper

David John Pieper, 75, of Shawano, died on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018, at his home. David was born in Shawano on Aug. 12, 1943, a son of the late Fred and Ida (Hess) Pieper. On Sept. 14, 1963, at St. James Lutheran Church, David was united in marriage to Karen Beyer. David lived all his life on the home farm. He worked as a farmer, cheesemaker and later at the Shawano Paper Mill until retiring. David enjoyed gardening, bowling, woodworking and ice fishing. He loved to cook and was known for his annual fall fish boils. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church-Stony Hill where he served on the finance committee and the altar guild. Above all else, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Duane L. Hovet

Duane Laverne Hovet, 80, of Shawano, died on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018, in Shawano. Born on Jan. 27, 1938, at home near Goodridge, Minnesota, he is a son of the late George and Evelyn (Anderson) Hovet. On May 12, 1962, Duane was united in marriage to JoAnne Sletten at Grace Lutheran Church in Oak Creek. Duane lived in South Milwaukee for 50 years. He worked at Bucyrus-Erie in South Milwaukee. After retiring, he moved to Shawano in 2001. Duane enjoyed deer hunting, snowmobiling and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano.

Duane is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, JoAnne, of Shawano; their three children, Kevin Hovet, Kelly Hovet and Kami Hovet, all of Butler; and one grandchild, Alex Hovet. He is further survived by his sister, Marion Bessette; and four brothers, Vernon (Carol) Hovet, Roger (Vera) Hovet, Ronald Hovet and Curtis (Sharon) Hovet.
