Gene G. Wood

Gene G. Wood, 81, of Wittenberg, died on Friday, March 9, 2018, at the Homme Home of Wittenberg under the care of his family and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

He was born on April 22, 1936, in Bowler, the son of the late Gilbert and Viola (Treptow) Wood.

On Dec. 27, 1959, Gene was united in marriage to JoAnn Raddant in Shawano. She survives.

Gene was a United States Army Veteran serving from 1958 to 1960.

Gene was employed as a truck driver for Schroeder Oil for many years until his retirement. He played baseball and softball for both Wittenberg and Almon for many years and was a Milwaukee Brewers fan. He was a big John Deere fan and enjoyed tilling gardens and plowing snow for others.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Wood, of Wittenberg; children, Bruce Wood, of Kronenwetter, and Pamela VanOoyen, of Weston; grandchildren, Ashley Wood, Kristin Wood, Kassidi Wood, Brayden VanOoyen and Brogan VanOoyen.

Dorothy R. Laux

Dorothy R. Laux, our beloved little “Wren,” stretched her wings and flew up to heaven on Saturday, March 3, 2018. She was born on April 14, 1927, in Clintonville to the late Clarence and Lydia Kriewaldt. She married Kenneth P. Laux on Sept. 1, 1947. These two were really some great parents and had lots of fun with the children and grandchildren on good old Long Lake. Many memorable meals were shared as “Dor” or “Little G” as the grandkids called her, was a most excellent cook. She also enjoyed a late night swim on a hot summer night and planting many trees and flowers. She was very kindhearted and would do anything for her family. She will be missed greatly. Dorothy was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church in Clintonville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenny, and her brother, Reinholdt Kriewaldt.

Leo Wojkiewicz

Leo Wojkiewicz, 90, Hofa Park, died peacefully in his sleep, Thursday, March 1, 2018, at a Green Bay hospital. The son of Stanley and Martha (Szalkowski) Wojkiewicz was born April 10, 1927, in Hofa Park. Leo served his country in the Army-Air Force during World War II, from 1945-1946, and was a member of the American Legion Post 337, Pulaski. On April 24, 1948, he married Veronica “Vernie” Hylok at SS Edward and Isidore Church in Flintville. The couple farmed in the Town of Maple Grove until their retirement.

Leo also worked at Menominee River Sugar Company and Carver Boat. He served as a supervisor for the Town of Maple Grove and was also town chairman for many years. He was also a supervisor for Shawano County and was a representative for the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Shawano County.

Rhoda Ferne (Beyer) Matz, 74, of Eland, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2018.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, and from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday, all at the funeral home.

Antionette M. Wilber

Antionette Mae “Tudy” Wilber, 71, of Keshena, passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 4, 2018, in Appleton. Tudy was born in Keshena on Feb. 21, 1947, the daughter of the late Alex and Sarah (Warrington) Waupoose. She graduated from Shawano High School in 1965. On Sept. 9, 1967, Tudy was united in marriage to Warren Wilber in Keshena. She is a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam era. Tudy has worked as an office manager at Keshena Primary School, Menominee Tribal Housing Authority, the College of Menominee Nation and finished her career at the Menominee Indian Tribe. She is a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Keshena and the Veterans of the Menominee Nation. Tudy enjoyed bear hunting, Harley rides, going for rides in the woods, working on puzzles and playing solitaire. More than anything, she loved spending time with her grandchildren, and her favorite saying was “I love you more!”
