Sharon J. Ross

Sharon Jeannine (Olson) Ross, 80, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 25, 2016. She was born on Sept. 7, 1935, in Shawano.

Sharon accomplished many roles during her lifetime, from homemaker to factory worker, from cook to school bus driver. However, her most fulfilling role was as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. Sharon was also an avid knickknack collector and loved to play bingo. Sharon lived her days in Wisconsin (Shawano County/Waupaca County), Alamogordo, New Mexico, and Tucson.

Sharon is survived by her husband of 62 years, Donald Ross; children, Robert (Sandy) Olson, Dawn Ross, Ronald (Kim) Ross, Brenda Valencia, Dennis Ross and Ryan (Laura) Ross; 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Darlene Beyer, Duane (Midge) Olson, Delyle Olson, Jerome Olson and Charmaine Olson, wife to Verlyn Olson. Sharon is further survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Johnny P. Balke

Johnny Philip Balke, 97, of Shawano, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2016, in Shawano. Born in the town of Belle Plaine on Nov. 28, 1918, Johnny was the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Kelly) Balke.

On Sept. 10, 1949, Johnny was united in marriage to Bernice Rickl in Blenker. Bernice preceded him in death on May 14, 2003.

Johnny loved music and was a part of several different groups, including Johnny’s Rhythm Rangers from 1939-1941, Wisconsin Blues Band from 1941-1947, Melody Mountaineers, and then Johnny & Bernice for 38 years. He was a member of the musicians union and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano.

Margaret A. Johnson

Margaret Arlene Johnson passed away most peacefully on Saturday, June 11.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Don; children, Bruce, Brian (Dianne) and Linda (Jim Kaiser); grandchildren, Devan (Dan Haselkamp), Aren and Noah; and brothers, Phil and Ralph (Gloria) Selgren.

She was 84 years old. She was a completely faithful servant of God her entire life and brought a foundation of Jesus to many people. This was most evident in her devotion to family, which was certainly tested through the years. Her creativity and talents would shine in the cooking, sewing and constant homemaking that she diligently performed. Her special touch was always evident. She never gave up and constantly endured with a hopeful, joyful and loving heart. She was an angel walking on Earth.

Louis L. Czaplewski

Louis “Lucky Lou” Czaplewski, 69, passed away on June 11, 2016, at his Gresham home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 18, 2016, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1230 Schabow St., Gresham, with Aaron High, 2nd Counselor in the bishopric, officiating. Burial will be in the Roosevelt Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the church from noon until the time of the service.

The family would appreciate donations for funeral expenses in lieu of flowers.

Virginia Beattie

Virginia “Ginger” (Raeder) Beattie passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at her home in Neenah.

Ginger was born on Jan. 21, 1960, in Shawano to Victor and Viola (Norton) Raeder.

Ginger worked in various positions in her short life including caregiver for many years at Agape of Appleton Inc. and as a respite care provider for Winnebago County for children with special needs. Ginger graciously cared for her mother for the last eight years until her passing on Oct. 17, 2015. Ginger was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Neenah.

Ginger loved spending time planting flowers and decorating her house. She loved giving her time and hugs to so many of her nieces and nephews. She so enjoyed the many date days she and Frank would spend together.

Mary R. Anderson

Mary R. Anderson, 83, of Shawano, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, in Shawano.

Mary was born in Arcadia, South Carolina, on May 5, 1933, the daughter of the late Adam and Allie (Beach) Sosbee. She was known throughout Shawano as “Grandma Mary” and could often be found volunteering in the community for the Shawano Hockey League or Olga Brener School. Mary was recently recognized by the Shawano School District with a Hawk Way Award.

She was member of Church on the Hill in Shawano.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Karen (Lamont Houston) Smith, of Shawano; two grandsons, Garrett (Samantha Dart) Smith and Alex Smith; one great-grandson, Rylan Dart; two stepsons, Douglas (Marilyn) Anderson, of Colorado, and Brady Anderson, of Shawano. She is further survived by her four siblings, Pete, Herman, Francis and Betsy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andy Anderson, her parents, and five brothers and sisters.

Diane E. DeBaker

Diane Ethel DeBaker, 68, of Leopolis, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, after a brief illness.

Diane was born in Shawano, on Nov. 12, 1947, the daughter of the late Orin and Geraldine (Cotter) Neuman. On Jan. 21, 1967, she was united in marriage to Joseph DeBaker at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Tigerton.

Diane had a big heart and was always putting others before herself. She enjoyed sewing, reading, shopping and spoiling her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Leopolis.
