SCHS Pom Pon squad earns trip to state

After placing fifth out of 14 teams at regionals Saturday, the Shawano Community High School Pom Pon squad will be working hard for the next two weeks, like they did after school Monday, as they prepare for the state competition Feb. 5.

The energy never dies with the Shawano Community High School Pom Pon squad. Whether it's a practice after school, the half-time show of a boys basketball game, or a weekend competition, the 19-member crew gives 110 percent.

Shawano one of two counties in program for dairy farmers

One hundred Shawano County dairy farmers now have the chance to sign up to take part in a unique new pilot program.

The Dairy Options Pilot Program (DOPP) was authorized under the Federal Agriculture Improvement and Reform (FAIR) Act of 1996. Farmers in both Shawano and Barron counties can enroll in the program which includes an innovative cost-share program that lets them learn about hedging milk prices.

Bonduel girls stay on top of CWL

MANAWA The Bonduel girls basketball team held on to its first place standing in the CWL Conference Monday night with a win over Manawa in a game that was postponed Jan. 13. the Bears used a hot shooting hand to dominate Manawa from start to finish.

Shawano squirts tie Green Bay in lone game

SHAWANO The Shawano squirts hockey team had a light weekend thanks to Mother Nature, playing only one game with their other games being canceled due to cold weather. The Lightning tied Green Bay 2-2 in their only game.

Against Green Bay on Saturday, the Lightning got off to a slow start offensively, while Green Bay jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 8:07 mark of the first period. Neither team would find the goal the rest of the first period.

Truckers finish second in own invite

CLINTONVILLE The Clintonville gymnastics team had a very successful day Saturday finishing second in their own invitational, with Waupun winning the meet with 116.65 points. The Truckers finished with 111.6 points.

Clintonville's Jessica Korth had a big day finishing fifth in the all-around and placing in the top five in three of the four events. Her total of 29.55 was good enough to put her in fifth place overall in the meet. Escanaba's Nina Schubert won the all-around competition with a 33.95 total on the day.

Rewriting Hawks history

SHEBOYGAN The Shawano wrestling team had a historic day on Saturday wrestling in the Raider Invite as senior Rocky DeLorme became the Hawks all-time winningest wrestler surpassing Jerry Henn's win total of 114.
