City reassessments in the mail by today

Property owners in the city of Shawano should be receiving their new property valuations this week.

Most properties will be going up in value, but city officials say residents shouldn't fear a big jump in taxes.

Mayor Russ Schmidt doesn't expect property owners to be unhappy with the reassessment or the effect on taxes. Since the city has a higher valuation on property, he said the tax rate should decrease accordingly, so in most cases, the tax bills will be the same next year.
