Badget hoopsters fall to Penn State in Big Ten action

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) Joe Crispin scored a career-high 31 points to lead Penn State to a 76-61 victory over Wisconsin on Wednesday night.

Jarrett Stephens added 15 points and 12 rebounds for Penn State (11-5, 3-2 Big Ten) while Jon Crispin and Titus Ivory each added 12 points.

Mark Vershaw had 14 points for Wisconsin (9-8, 1-4) and Jon Bryant added 12.

Bucks can't handle Pacers in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) The move into Conseco Fieldhouse continues to be rewarding for the Indiana Pacers.

The Pacers won their 13th straight at home, giving them a 16-2 record in the new facility and all of their home games have been sellouts.

Reggie Miller scored 29 points and Mark Jackson had 12 assists as the Pacers defeated Milwaukee 106-84 Wednesday night.

Indiana hasn't lost at home since Nov. 25, when Detroit won 107-99.

Icy creations going up over the weekend

Five international ice carvers will help wrap up Northern Exposure 2000 this weekend with the Menominee Ice Challenge Ice Carving Competition at the Menominee Casino-Bingo-Hotel, Keshena.

The carvers representing Italy, Canada, the Philippines, and the United States will compete with their own designs based on the "Ice Sculpture Around the World" theme created last weekend, according to Chuck Wagner, director of the Professional Ice Carvers Tour.

Joint arena plan revived

A combined ice hockey/equestrian facility at the Shawano County Fairgrounds is one step closer to reality.

Wednesday night the Shaw-ano Area Ag Society, which manages the county fairgrounds, gave its approval to a new plan proposed for the facility by the Shawano Hockey Association and the county's 4-H Horse Project Key Commit-tee.

Remmel honored

for the Leader

APPLETON Shawano native Lee Remmel was honored Tuesday night with the annual Red Smith Award at the 35th Annual Red Smith Sports Award Banquet.

Remmel said the award ranks right at the top of honors he's received, right up there with being inducted into the Packer Hall of Fame in 1996.

Participation in relay for life triples
