County settles landfill bid for $5,000

Shawano County supervisors have approved a settlement that calls for a payment of $5,000 to Triple P Construction of Green Bay to settle a lawsuit filed by the company against Shawano County, and the county's Solid Waste Management Board. The approval came during a special meeting held by the county board Thursday.

Hawks fall to West DePere in Bay prep golf action

DEPERE The Shawano golf team suffered a narrow defeat by West DePere Wednesday afternoon in Bay Conference action. The Hawks were beaten 159-164 despite having the lowest individual score in the meet.

Ryan Greenhill shot a 38 on the eight-hole course for the day's best score. Shawano's Phil Lubinski was three shots off the pace shooting a 41 for the Hawks, while Paul Heideman had a 42 on the day. Josh Effenberger with a 43 and Kyle Newton with a 44 rounded out the day for the varsity squad.

Bears win in 10-inning thriller

KESHENA After overcoming a four run deficit in the seventh inning Wednesday afternoon, the Bonduel baseball team scored the game-winning run in the top of the 10th inning to beat Menominee Indian 7-6 in CWL Conference action.

Lucas Torbeck led off the 10th inning with a triple and Matt Scheelk followed that up with an RBI single to put the Bears up 7-6. Derek Drage, pitching his 10th inning of the game, shut down the Eagles in the bottom of the inning to keep the Bears unbeaten on the year.
