Local semi driver dies in Vilas Co. accident

A Shawano truck driver killed in crash Wednesday will be remembered as someone who would do anything to help anybody, a family member said.

Michael Kupsky, 50, W5850 County B, Shawano, died in a Vilas County semi truck accident after his tanker's cab plunged more than 30 feet into the Manitowish River, his trailer still dangling off the bridge.

Kupsky was a semi driver for Schneider National Trucking, Green Bay, and at the time of the accident was hauling an empty Morning Glory milk tank in the Manitowish Waters area.

Schools look for new tool to fight substance abuse

Schools in Shawano County may soon have a new tool to help keep them safe and free of drugs and alcohol.

Earlier this month the Shawano County Law Enforcement Committee unanimously passed a motion in support of the program called Quick 50. Now area schools are being asked to be involved.

Bears win CWL showdown with Chargers

BONDUEL The Bonduel girls basketball team avenged their only CWL Conference loss Thursday night with a 43-28 win over Wittenberg-Birnamwood to move into a first-place tie with Marion in the CWL Conference standings.

The Bears jumped out early and never trailed the entire game on their way to the big win. Bonduel opened the game on an 8-0 run with six points coming off of Melissa Edler layups. Edler finished the game with 10 points.

Hawks drop third straight in Bay action

DEPERE The Shawano wrestling team lost five of the final six matches Thursday night to fall to DePere 42-24 in Bay Conference action. After taking a 21-16 lead midway through the competition the Hawks could only win one of the remaining six matches leading to their defeat.

Shawano opened the match with a loss in the 103 pound match as Josh Theis was pinned by Mike Thomas in 54 seconds. Trailing 6-0 the Hawks quickly tied the score when Ryan Duebler won his 112 pound match by forfeit.
