Leader to be purchased by Madison Newspapers

Madison Newspapers, Inc., announced plans today to purchase the Shawano Leader and 10 other publications in Wisconsin operated by Independent Media Group.

At the same time, Lee Enterprises, which owns half of Madison Newspapers, will purchase IMG's remaining properties in Wisconsin one daily and 10 other publications, as well as properties in Nebraska. The Capital Times Co. owns the other half of Madison Newspapers.

The IMG properties in Wisconsin being purchased by Madison Newspapers are:

Teen who bit deputy gets six months in jail

A Carter area girl, accused of biting a Shawano County Sheriff's deputy during the execution of a search warrant at a Cecil convenience store last October, and then damaging the squad car after her arrest, entered no contest pleas and was sentenced Thursday in Shawano County Circuit Court.

Cecil business man now facing added drug charges

A Cecil business owner, already facing charges related to the armed robbery of the First State Bank in Cecil last October, is now facing additional charges.

Shawano-Menominee County district attorney Gary Robert Bruno has filed three new charges against 47-year-old Darrell Tachick. Tachick, the owner of the Cecil Citgo Convenience Store, is now facing two counts of delivering cocaine and a single count of allowing his apartment to be used for, and frequented by, people using illegal drugs.

Bowler stays unbeaten in CWS

GRESHAM The Bowler baseball team remained perfect on the year with a 16-3 CWS Conference win over Gresham Thursday afternoon. The loss kept the Wildcats winless on the year.

Bowler's Brad Emmel pitched a complete game for the win striking out 11 batters. Nikk Brei and Kris Clauss got the job done at the plate for the Panthers, with Brei going 3-for-5 with a homerun and four RBI and Clauss going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Hawks picks up first loss of season

ANTIGO For the first time this season the Shawano baseball team lost a game falling to Antigo 10-5. Antigo scored in each of the first five innings overcoming a 4-0 Shawano lead.

The Hawks got off to a great start scoring four runs in the top of the first inning, but could only muster one more run the rest of the game. In the bottom half of the first Antigo cut the Hawks' lead to 4-2 before going on a tear in the second inning to grab the lead for good.

Bonduel baseball stays perfect with third win

WEYAUWEGA The perfect season continues for the Bonduel baseball team as they stayed unbeaten with a 16-0 win over Weyauwega in CWL Conference action Thursday afternoon. Derek Drage picked up his second win of the season with a two-hit shutout performance striking out 10 batters in five innings of work.

Four Bears had two RBI in the game. Drage, Lucas Torbeck, Chris Blum and Lawrence Coon each drove in two runs to help the Bears to the huge win. Nick Prodell also had a big game going 3-for-4 at the plate.

Shawano opens Bay track season with loss

PULASKI The Shawano track team had a tough day in their Bay Conference opener against Pulaski Thursday afternoon. The boys team lost 112-34, while the girls lost 100-32. Individually the team had many successful results however.
