Cold and flu season are here

The winter season is often synonymous with the cold and flu season, when colder temperatures reduce the immune system's ability to fight off viruses.

Flu and cold season has already started and is expected to go until April. Shawano County Health Director Rebecca Hovarter is recommending that residents take the necessary steps to keep viruses from spreading.

Coughs and sneezes can transmit the cold virus, so it is always best to sneeze into a tissue, Hovarter said, making sure the tissue is immediately discarded in the trash.

Lions wrap, give for holidays

Find the toys. Wrap the presents. Load up the presents.

It sounds like what Santa Claus will be doing Saturday night on the eve of Christmas, but it's actually what the Shawano Lake Lions Club did this week as it helped out six families in need with enough food to get them through the holiday season and even some presents to make Christmas a little brighter.
