Winter tough on your skin

It's the time of year for dry and cold weather, which often leads to dry, itchy winter skin, but the fixes may not be as obvious as they seem.

Often a comfort on a chilly day, hot showers actually do more harm than good when it comes to retaining moisture, according to Kurt Holst of Dermatology Associates of Wisconsin.

"Hot water actually pulls moisture out when it evaporates," Holst said. "Luke warm is better."

To avoid the chill, place a space heater that is safe for bathroom use in the room.
