Barbara M. Rusch

Barbara Rusch, 68, of Shawano, passed away Monday, June 10, 2019, after a long, hard struggle with cancer. She was born Sept. 6, 1950, the daughter of the late Florian and Florence Karcz. She grew up in Pulaski, graduated from Ashwaubenon High School in 1968, worked for Green Bay Plastics and eventually pursued work as a waitress at Kroll’s West in Green Bay for many years. She then moved to Shawano and was united in marriage to Jack Rusch on Aug. 30, 1981. She proceeded to be a waitress at Allen and Rosie’s restaurant, currently Farm Inn’ On Main. Shortly after, she took a new career as a housekeeper until health issues no longer allowed her to continue. She was well known as a people person with her sense of humor and big heart. She enjoyed hunting, gardening, cooking, cleaning, country music, donating to others in need, spending time with her ferret and, most of all, fishing.

Barb was a loving wife and mother and will be deeply missed by her extended family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Rusch, of Shawano; daughter, Dawn Gumieny, of Cecil; son, Dean Peters, of Shawano; and siblings Ken Karcz, of Green Bay, and Carol Van De Yacht, of Oneida. Barb is further survived by other relatives, step-children and friends, including three wonderful grandchildren, Donny Gumieny, Derek Gumieny and Daniel Gumieny Jr., all of Cecil.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Florian and Florence Karcz; and her favorite uncle, Raymond Miller; as well as others.

Private services will be held for Barb by family members only.

The family would like to extend a special thank you for the staff at ThedaCare Medical Center-Shawano, Shawano Health Services, and Unity Hospice for all of their compassionate care.
