Menominee Indian wins Marion Tournament

Tigerton finishes 3-2

The Menominee Indian volleyball team continued its strong start to the fall season, posting a 5-0 record to win the Marion Tournament on Friday.

In its first match of the day, the Eagles claimed a hard fought 25-22, 25-22 sweep of Tigerton. Menominee Indian followed that win up with another sweep, this time of Marion (25-13, 25-10).

The Eagles then gave coach Jackson Miller his first ever win over Tri-County (25-16, 25-6) before a thrilling comeback win over Wisconsin Valley Lutheran (16-25, 25-19, 15-13). Menominee Indian capped its day with a 25-15, 25-7 win over White Lake.

“It would be really hard to single out top performers today. Everyone played really well,” Jackson said. “Our back row was passing well all day and all of our hitters were contributing and giving us a very balanced attack which was a huge reason why we had the success we did today.”

Menominee Indian now owns a 7-0 record on the season.

Tigerton also competed in the tournament, finishing with a 3-2 record. The Tigers defeated Tri-County (26-24, 25-18), White Lake (25-13, 25-11) and Marion (25-11, 25-14) and dropped matches to Wisconsin Valley Lutheran (25-16, 25-27) and Menominee Indian.

Monika Minniecheske finished the tournament with 34 kills, 17 digs, 13 block kills and eight aces to lead Tigerton. Kelsi Schumaker tallied 29 digs, 18 kills and five aces while Adrienne Brady had 34 assists and 10 aces.

Savannah Swartz contributed 16 digs, nine kills and five block kills while Jaidan Miller totaled 33 assists and 11 kills. Ladia Block had 15 digs while Olivia Anderson served three aces.
