Tonette Walker going for stroll with locals

‘Walk for Walker’ event later this month

Wisconsin first lady Tonette Walker will host a “Walk with Walker” event in Shawano on Aug. 22.

Participants will gather at 9:45 a.m. at Sturgeon Park, 801 S. Water St., Shawano. The event will be held rain or shine.

Walker will lead a 1.6-mile walk near the Wolf River to promote tourism destinations across Wisconsin and encourage engagement and wellness in local communities. This is the 68th Walk with Walker event since 2011.

“This will be our first Walk with Walker event in Shawano, and I am looking forward to learning more about the community,” Walker said. “These walks are a great way to get moving and socialize with others in your own backyard.”

Walk with Walker events are free. They promote health and fitness while supporting tourism in Wisconsin by showcasing the state’s natural beauty. These walks also provide participants with the unique opportunity to spend some time with the first lady while enjoying Wisconsin’s treasured hiking experiences.

Participants are advised to bring good walking shoes, hat, sunscreen, insect repellant, appropriate outerwear for the weather, camera and water for the hike.
