Henrietta J. Long

Henrietta Jean “Sis” Long, 68, of South Branch, unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay. She had battled ongoing health problems that she overcame miraculously within the past year. We were blessed to have her well and herself for the past few months, but ultimately she succumbed to the same dreaded sepsis that plagued her months ago. As a member of Keshena Assembly of God, living her faith was her greatest joy this past year.

Born onto Alex and Margaret Peters on June 30, 1950, in Keshena, Henrietta was raised true and true in South Branch, “Brancher All the Way!” Sis lived a very full life, a life she shared with her husband, Kenneth Wendell “Kenny Long,” whom she joined in marriage on May 14, 1986.

Many Menominee children were bused for many years by Sis when she worked for the Menominee Indian School District. She also cared deeply for our elders while employed by the Menominee CBRF. Community members had memorable rides with her on the Menominee Transit. She was also a dedicated employee of the United States Census Bureau, of which she “tried” to go to work recently. Sis was always on the go, in a hurry to get somewhere, whether it be working, playing bingo, slots, shanging, spending time with family and friends, cooking out, or cheering on the Packers, and she enjoyed her occasional scratch-off ticket. She was the grandest wreathmaker. Her wreaths had to be perfect and decorated just so. Sis made sure the Menominee Vets had their annual wreath for Veterans Day. Above all, Mom lived and loved her gardening and houseplants. She was such a blessing to many and will be sadly missed by all.

Sis is survived by her eight children, Gaynelle Margaret Peters, Alex J. (Alison) Peters Sr., Kathleen J. (Michael) Peters, Coleen Marie Peters, Kendell L. (Alvin) Long, Florence I. (Trina) Long, Bobbi Jo (Nito) Long and Frank (Leslie) Long; three sisters, Shirley “Donnie” (Stan) Peters, Debra McPherson and Ella Bruette; sister-in-law, Deborah Lyons; her loving and spoiled 29 grandchildren; and the newest members of the family, 16 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenny Long; her parents, Alex and Margaret Peters; five brothers, Alex Peters, Orvis “Jim” Peters, Robert J. Peters, Arnold Peters and John Peters; seven sisters; Lucille Warrington, Edith Peters, Delores Pyatskowit, Margaret Sanapaw, Karen Peters, Ella Peters and Mabel Teller; one grandson, Justin Lee, whom she loved dearly.

Visitation began at her residence in South Branch at N6181 County Road AA, Suring, on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2018, at 4 p.m. The funeral service will be held at her residence on Friday, Aug. 3, 2018 at 2 p.m. with Brother Nathan Enick Sr. officiating.
