The McDonald’s restaurant in Wittenberg has been named the Top Performing Restaurant of 2017 by Kilian Management Services, which owns 49 McDonald’s sites in Wisconsin and Upper Michigan.

Each year, the company has a contest that judges its restaurants on 10 criteria. The Wittenberg location achieved seven to win its first Top Performing Restaurant award.

Among its accomplishments, Wittenberg had fewer than six complaints per 1,000 customers, according to company officials, exceeded its sales goals and met crew staffing goals.

Based in West Bend, Kilian Management Services is owned by founder Steve Kilian Sr. One of the company’s goals is to open three locations per year, according to district manager Nikki Nievinski.

Kimm Donner became general manager of the Wittenberg location in June. She works closely with Nievinski, who is a district manager also in charge of the Wausau location and four restaurants in Green Bay.

Nievinski started working part time for McDonald’s 18 years ago. Donner started 10 years ago. Both had full-time jobs and were just looking to supplement their incomes, but both eventually left those jobs to work full time at McDonald’s.

“There’s a great career path for people who want it,” Nievinski said. “You can get insurance working 32 hours per week, and there are plenty of opportunities to earn more through bonuses and incentives.”

Donner noted that college kids get $1,000 per year for committing to work summers, Thanksgiving and winter breaks.

“Four of our managers are full-time college students,” she said.

Donner and Nievinski agreed flexible scheduling helps attract seniors as well as younger workers.

The Wittenberg location has about 54 employees covering shifts from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.
