County FSA names Wittenberg man to seat

A Wittenberg man has been elected to a three-year term on a local committee serving the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Jeff Long will take office on the county committee later this month, said Nancy Swenty, Shawano-Menominee County USDA Farm Service Agency executive director, joining the existing members in our administrative area.

“County committee members are a critical component of the day-to-day operations of FSA,” said Swenty. “They help deliver programs at the county level and work to serve the needs of local producers.”

Every Farm Service Agency office is required to have a county committee comprised of and elected by local farmers. Nearly 7,800 county committee members serve FSA offices nationwide, helping the agency make decisions on such programs as commodity support, conservation, emergency, indemnity and disaster. They also ensure the fair and equitable administration of FSA farm programs in their counties and are accountable to the Secretary of Agriculture.
