The sights and sounds of Christmas will be celebrated on Dec. 20-21 with Christmas at Heritage Park at the Shawano County Historical Society. There will be concerts and sing-a-longs at the Old Tabor Church and caroling and cocoa at the archives.

The festivities are free and open to the public, but donations to Shawano Area Matthew 25 and Safe Haven will be accepted.

“I hope people will come and celebrate the season,” said Muffy Culhane, SAM25 board president.

The emergency shelter has been full nearly every night since it opened on Nov. 1

There will be a special event on Thursday, the longest night of the year. From 6-7 p.m. a memorial service will be held for those who have died in 2017 from homelessness.

“It’s been going on nationwide since 1990,” Culhane said.

Stacey Cicero, executive director of Safe Haven, said they appreciate the wonderful donations that are dropped off at Safe Haven throughout the year.

“The holidays are a busy time and the demand for services increases,” she said. “With your generous support we can break the cycle of violence so families can become healthy, self-sufficient, and independent.”

There will also be free tours of the Zachow Depot, hot cocoa, apple cider, chili, and baked treats. Visitors can even roast chestnuts over an open fire.
