Goodfellows kicking off holiday drive

Grace Kirchner Leader Correspondent

The Clintonville Goodfellows, a local charitable group, is collecting names and accepting applications for its 67th annual holiday drive for area individuals and families in need. This year, the board of directors has decided to extend the distribution of food, toys, etc., to include both the Clintonville and Marion school districts.

The group was founded in the early 1950s by Frank Sinkewicz, a former officer at FWD Corporation, and has for years helped to make the holidays brighter for the less fortunate — thanks, in part, to the dedication of longtime volunteers and the generosity of local donors. Aside from some funding through the local United Way, the Goodfellows’ work is supported by donations from individuals, businesses and civic groups.

Volunteers are collecting names of potential recipients through Nov. 15. Assembling of the gift boxes — which typically include toys, canned goods, mittens and caps, blankets and a gift card to Tadych’s Econo Foods in Clintonville — occurs in mid-December. Distribution will be 9-11 a.m. Dec. 14 at Memory Lanes and Banquet Hall, 250 County Road I, Clintonville.

Donations are tax deductible and can be mailed to: Clintonville Goodfellows, P.O. Box 135, Clintonville, WI 54929. For information, call 920-402-0225.
