Alene D. Newcomb

Alene D. Newcomb, 76, of Wittenberg, died on Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017, at her home under the care of her family and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

She was born on May 4, 1941, in Wittenberg, the daughter of the late Adolf Diestler and Ellen (Groh) Diestler Dean.

On June 22, 1963, Alene was united in marriage to Morton Newcomb in Wittenberg. He preceded her in death on May 27, 2015.

Alene was librarian for the village of Wittenberg Public Library for over 20 years. She also was church organist for St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wittenberg, where she played for many services, funerals and weddings. Alene enjoyed reading, knitting, canning, baking, gardening, quilting and music.

Survivors include her daughters, Mary Newcomb, of Fort Atkinson, Beth (Jim) Breske, of Hatley, Carrie (Troy) Zernzach, of Red Granite, and Cathy (Craig) Kolbeck, of Algoma; two sons, Mort (Lisa) Newcomb, of Oshkosh, and Tom (Heather) Newcomb, of Columbus; 12 grandchildren, Tiffany, Stephanie, Shannon, Austin, Halle, Cassidy, John, Caitlyn, Ray, Tyler, Ella and Jacob; and one great-grandchild, Skylar.

Alene was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, Charles Dean and sister Julie McGivern.

A visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery, Wittenberg.
