Cast announced for ‘Christmas … On the Air’

A large cast of area performers of all ages is rehearsing for the upcoming holiday themed “Christmas … On the Air” by Gregory Owens to be presented Dec. 1-3 and Dec. 8-10 at the historic Rexford-Longfellow Elementary School Auditorium in Clintonville.

Leading roles in the musical include Trent Laack, a student at Clintonville High School, who is Lt. Jack O’Brien. Amanda Hein plays Rosie Lyle, his love interest. Ben Huber is in the role of Tate Carmichael, radio station host, and Tara Huber is Maxine Rivera.

Three others of the Huber family are in the show: Thayer Fietsch as Franky Kovac, the sound effects man, Zeke Fietsch as Casey Williamson, a budding singer, and Caitlin Huber as the Hollywood star Darla Davenport.

Mark Moran, principal at St. Martin Lutheran School, is Gordy Gordon, the stations sales manager.

The director of the musical, Brandon Byng, also plays the role of Hal Kenkade. Band director Bethie Williamson, teacher at St. Martin, is Hal’s wife Kitty.

Others in the cast include Rusty Mitchell and his wife, Teddie, who portray Mr. and Mrs. Smiley, the radio show’s sponsor. Nicole Kirchner, a Clintonville High School student, is playing the photographer and sound booth tech.

Children are also part of the cast. Sterling, Lauren and Dillion VanStraten, siblings who attend St. Rose-St. Mary Catholic School in Clintonville, are assuming the role of the Smiley grandchildren. Cassidy, Cadence, Gwendolyn and Gisselle Rose, all students at Clintonville public schools, make up the rest of the Smiley grandchildren.

This musical is the first stage effort of a newly formed community theater group, Phoenix Players. The Clintonville Lions Club have partnered to sponsor the show.

Tickets for the show are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.

Performances will take place at 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays.
