Leon R. Shawanokasic

Leon R. “Archie” Shawanokasic, 58, of Neopit, began his journey to the Spirit World early Wednesday morning, Nov. 15, 2017, at ThedaCare Medical Center-Appleton, surrounded by his family.

Archie was born March 27, 1959, in Keshena, a son of the late Joseph and Virginia (Waupoose) Shawanokasic. He attended school in Gresham. Following school, he became a certified home health care worker. Archie also worked at the Menominee Casino and North Star Casino in various positions for several years.

He is a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Neopit. Archie liked riding in the woods at Crow Settlement, going to the casino, watching the Packers, getting together in the summer at the lake lot with family and friends, classic country music, and cooking his special (and often requested) baked beans and fried chicken. More than anything, Archie loved to spoil Karley and his nieces and nephews.

Archie is survived by his brothers and sister, Robert (Leslie) Shawanokasic, LeRoy (Elizabeth) Shawanokasic, Sarah Shawanokasic, Peter (Judy) Shawanokasic, Norman (Kathleen) Shawanokasic and Daniel (Margo) Shawanokasic; his very special niece, Mary Shawanokasic; his special goddaughter, Kita Bauer; several cousins and many other special nieces and nephews; and his dear friends, Mike G., Lee Corn, Bubba Corn, and Elda Bear.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Rodney Waupoose, Anthony Shawanokasic, Harvey Shawanokasic, Joseph Shawanokasic Jr., Donald “Buddy” Shawanokasic, Rose Theresa Shawanokasic and Mildred Shirley; his special aunt/mother, Tillie Zhuckkahosee; and several aunts and uncles.

A funeral Mass for Leon R. Shawanokasic will be celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at 1 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Neopit. The Rev. Joel Jores will be the celebrant. Burial will be in the West Branch Cemetery. Visitation will take place at Archie’s home, N3464 State Highway 47, Neopit, until the procession leaves for church on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. A parish wake service will take place on Friday at 7 p.m. at the house.
