Clintonville school planning Halloween events for community

The third annual St. Rose St. Mary’s 5K Halloween Hustle and Trunk or Treat will take place Oct. 27 at 140 Auto St. in Clintonville. Participants are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes.

Janelle Schraufnagel, organizer of the event and admissions coordinator for St. Rose St. Mary’s School, said the goal is to provide a safe and fun Halloween event for the whole family.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with so many local businesses and community leaders,” Schraufnagel said, “and we are excited to make Clintonville, St. Rose St. Mary’s School and the Halloween Hustle a holiday destination tradition.”

Trunk or Treat participants will receive a bag that includes a T-shirt, book and other goodies, all for $10. There will also be games and music by disc jockey Kurt Boldig beginning at 5:15 p.m.

The 5K starts at 6 p.m. Free child care will be available during the race. Children will work on crafts, watch movies, play games and be able to have their faces painted by local artist Julie Wilber. The cost of the 5K is $30 per person. Race bags include a T-shirt, light-up safety armband and other goodies, as well as entry into the prize drawing.

The fun continues after the 5K. Sarah Boldig of Second Chances Design will provide a spooky photo booth and Halloween-themed custom decorating. Food available for purchase will include pasta plates, hot dog plate, drinks, sides and more.

A costume contest includes categories for kids, adults and groups.

Prizes for the drawing include a six-month membership to the Clintonville Recreation Center, Fitbit Charge HR and a Nintendo Switch.

Last year, nearly 250 people participated in the race and Trunk or Treat.
