Red Cross calls for donors before holiday season

With the busy holiday season approaching, the American Red Cross encourages donors to give blood now to help ensure a sufficient supply for patients this winter.

Between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, many regular donors delay giving due to holiday activities and travel. This often decreases the amount of donated blood available for patients.

Area blood drives include the following: 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 20, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints-Shawano, 910 E. Zingler Ave., Shawano; 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 20, Bowler High School, 500 S. Almon St., Bowler; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 23, Shawano County Courthouse, 311 N. Main St., Shawano; 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 24, North Star Mohican Casino Resort, W12180 County Road A, Bowler; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 8, Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School, 400 W. Grand Ave., Wittenberg.

Individuals who are 17, weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in.

To schedule an appointment to donate, use the free blood donor app, visit, or call 920-855-2304 or 800-733-2767. Appointments are appreciated, but walk-ins are welcome.
