Seymour rallied from a halftime deficit to defeat Shawano 27-9 in Bay Conference play Friday at Shawano.

Shawano scored all of its points in the first quarter and led 9-0 at halftime.

“We played a really good first half and then Seymour stepped up and gained momentum,” Shawano head coach Alan Tomow said. “Seymour made some adjustments after half and we just weren’t able to stop them.”

The Hawks (2-4, 2-4 Bay) rushed for 160 yards in the first half but only 45 in the second.

Shawano quarterback Jarrett Laatsch rushed for 113 yards on 19 carries and was 3 of 6 passing for 19 yards.

“It seemed like we were playing a step slower and let our guard down,” Tomow said. “We made some mistakes to give them the lead and then didn’t bounce back.”

Tomow said the mistakes included being outplayed by the offensive line of Seymour (3-2, 3-1 Bay).

“We didn’t have an answer to stop them from gaining yards, and ultimately, points,” Tomow said. “But there’s a lot of football left to be played, so we’re not going to let this loss define our season.”

West De Pere remains atop the Bay with a 4-0 record, with Seymour, Menasha and New London all one game back.
