Julaine Samanta Roy

Julaine Samanta Roy (aka Sarah Steinberg and Sarah Cohen), 85, passed away May 5, 2014, in Baltimore, Maryland.

She was born to Bernard and Mildred Smith in Winona, Minnesota, on Feb. 19, 1929, and graduated from high school in St. Charles, Minnesota. After studying at the Minneapolis Institute of Art and Design and Bethany Fellowship in Bloomington, Minnesota, she lived in Jamaica for seven years as a missionary before marrying Rama Behera, who became Rama Samanta Roy and then Avraham Cohen, in 1965.

Musically inclined and very artistic, she had a very beautiful voice and a lifelong interest in architecture. A long-time resident of Shawano, she most recently resided in Baltimore.

Julaine was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Kendall, and daughter, Deborah.

She is survived by her sisters, Lois Jean Loomis-Theesfeld and Genene Gordish; her husband; her son; and three grandchildren.

Julaine was laid to rest in Beth El Memorial Park in Randallstown, Maryland.
