The following is a list of July 4 events (along with some July 3, 5 and 6 events) to help you plan a weekend full of celebrations. By a production error, the event listing from last year was printed in the June 26 Spotlight. The Shawano Leader regrets the error and any confusion it may have caused. Gresham This is Gresham’s Centennial, so the July 4 celebration will be big. The kickoff will be a kids parade at noon on Friday. Kids can decorate their doll buggies, bikes, wagons or push or battery cars. No age limit to enter, prizes will be awarded. Gather at the Catholic church driveway at 11:30 a.m. for line up. Food and beverages will be available for sale on Main Street from noon on Friday thoughout the evening. There will be exhibits on display at the Gresham Depot Museum with demonstrations by a blacksmith, a spinner, and a telegraph operator. The Legion Hall, the former Gresham Centennial General Store, will also have nostalgic pictorial exhibits on display. Centennial memorabilia will be for sale, including a Centennial book, a centennial DVD and the Gresham 100 year cook book. The Centennial ceremonies will begin at 2 p.m. Friday Main Street with a salute by the American Legion, raising of the flag and by a balloon release. Speakers will include Congressman Steve Kagen and Assemblyman Gary Tauchen. Village elders will be recognized and keys will be given to the most senior citizens. There will be an apple pie baking contest, everyone is welcome to enter. Judging will be at 4 p.m. Prizes will be awarded and the pies will then be auctioned off. Live music on Main Street will begin at 3 p.m. with the Morgan Creek Band followed by Blend 7 at 7 p.m. There will a street dance with fireworks at dusk. Saturday, July 5, will begin with a huge parade at noon. Cash prizes will be awarded for best of categories. More than 2 tons of candy will be thrown along the one-mile parade route. Food and beverages will be available under a big tent at Riverside Park. For the kids there will be the Inflatable Fun Land and Games by Ed. Children must register in the park for the 100-bike give-away. The drawing will be at 5 p.m. Children must be present to win. Music under the tent will begin at 2 p.m. with the KNX Party Band. At 7 p.m. the RPM Band will start playing. Fireworks at dusk. Cloverleaf Lakes A dance will be held beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, July 4 at Rustic Resort on County Road Y with music by David Sky & Cold Water Creek. On Saturday, July 5, there will be a kiddie parade at 10 a.m. at the boat landing on Grass Lake. A pontoon parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. starting on the northwest corner of Pine Lake. Fireworks will be held at dusk. Bonduel The Bonduel Civic Association will present 97th Annual Fourth of July Celebration starting with the parade at 11 a.m. The parade will begin at at the high school on West Green Bay Street and proceed east to Washington Street and then north to Village Park. There is no need to pre-register and there is no entry fee. There is a restriction on farm machinery of one power unit to one hitch. There is no restrictions on farm trucks. Bicycle giveaways for children up to age 15 will following the parade. Children must register and be present to win. Baseball games will start at 1:30 p.m. at the park. The event will also include music, food, beverages, and entertainment all day at Village Park. Music in the afternoon will be by KNX Party Band with John and Lynn Koenigs. Dance from 7 to 11 p.m. with The Wolf River Band Fireworks will begin around 9:45 p.m. with the raffle to follow. For information, call Shirley Welcing at 758-8654. Help is always needed. Leopolis Leopolis will combine athletics with fun during its annual triathlon on July 4. The Beer Belly course includes swimming the Leopolis Pond, biking five miles and running two miles. The kids class use the same route as the beer belly class. The Jock Class includes swimming the pond, biking 12 miles and running five miles. Registration is from 9 a.m. to 10:30. The race will start at 11 a.m., and all athletes should be there by 10:45 a.m. The parade is at 1:30 going east on Main Street. Afterward, there will be lunch, a Little League tournament and a dance at Leopolis Park. Tigerton The Tigerton Main Street Block Party will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Friday, July 4 outside the 1905 Village Hall in downtown Tigerton. The auction will be held inside the building from noon to 5:30 p.m. Hauser’s Hot Shots will provide music. Tickets are $3 per person. Tents will be set up in the parking lot between the Community Center and the Old Village Hall for eating, games, and craft booths. Food and beverages will be provided by area churches. A Kiddy Parade for children 12 and under begins at 2 p.m. Children should decorate their bike, wagon, or anything they wish according to a ‘50s or ‘60s theme, and meet in the alley behind the Community Center by 1:45. For information, contact Lee Kreklow at 535-2831. Keshena The Town of Menominee Volunteer Fire Department will set off fireworks at dusk July 4 at the Keshena Fairgrounds. Gillett The Annual 4th of July Celebration will take place in Gillett on Thursday, July 3 and Friday, July 4. The theme for the parade which will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday is "Pride and Patriotism." Parade Marshals are Jim and Irma Schroeder. Letters have been sent out to previous participants in the parade. If any individual, business or organization would like to participate in the parade, please call John Hicks (920) 855-2956 for registration information. Other events rounding out the celebration are a truck pull on Thursday night, a horse pull Friday morning and an antique tractor pull starting in the evening prior to the fireworks at dusk. Shawano Shawano will put on a fireworks show starting at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 6 at the Shawano City-County Airport. Tune to WTCH (960 AM) to listen to patriotic music during the show. Shawano Lake The 3rd annual boat parade will be Saturday, July 5. Boaters can preregister at Sunset Grill. Final time to register is noon-1 p.m. July 5. Participation is free. The parade will start at Sunset Grill at 1 p.m. Pontoons and other watercraft will travel in single file as close to the shoreline as possible east toward Cecil. The theme is “America — Travel by Boat,” also a patriotic theme. Parade will travel around the entire lake. WTCH AM 960, WOWN 99.3 FM, WFCL 138 AM and WJMP 92.3 FM will all have live updates from on the lake all afternoon. Persons can vote for the boat of their choice at Sunset Grill until 30 minutes after boat parade ends. There will be lots of prizes for participating boats. For information contact Sunset Grill. The event is sponsored by the Sunset Grill in partnership with Results Broadcasting. Manawa It's Western action at its best in “Rodeo City,” Manawa July 4-6. Celebrating 50 years, the annual Mid-Western Rodeo sponsored by the Manawa Lions Club begins Friday at 7:30 p.m., with shows Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and the final show Sunday at 2 p.m. Contestants from throughout the United States will compete for over $110,000 in cash awards on the world's toughest stock, provided by J Bar J Ranch Inc. of Clare, Mich. SMU Commission picks local woman as leader A new general manager has been named for Shawano Municipal Utilities. The high price of gas is high on the list of priorities for U.S. Rep. Steve Kagen (D-Wis.) as he heads into the campaign for a second term in the Eighth Congressional District. Pulaski Red Raiders band heads to D.C. Tom Busch made this trip before — in 2002. It was only nine months after Islamic terrorists attacked the World Trade Center. Fear of another attack on U.S. soil lingered in his conscience. So before Busch led his 150-odd Pulaski Marching Band to Washington D.C. for the nationally renowned national Independence Day Parade on July 4, 2002, he needed to gauge the fear factor. Businesses owing city money denied licenses Beer and liquor, soda, cigarette and amusement licenses were in limbo Tuesday for five businesses due to unpaid property taxes and other bills owed to the city.
