Packer afghan part of her crafting By Carol Wagner, of the Leader staffDonna Tischauser has made three Green Bay Packer afghans. The first one she gave away, the second one was used in a raffle, and the third one is for sale for $100. “I’ve never kept track of my time, but they take lots of time,” she said. “I thought it would be a good seller. The material alone cost quite a bit.” She had the afghan at the St. James craft fair earlier this year where people remarked at its beauty and how much work it must have been to make. Tischauser said she likes to watch the Packer games. Tischauser, whose mother taught her how to crochet, also makes baby quilts. She embroiders pillow cases, table cloths, dish towels and baby quilts. She works on her embroidery and crocheting almost every day. “I can’t just sit down and watch TV,” Tischauser said. And when she starts a project, she finishes it. “When I make something, I like to get it done,” she said. After she retired 10 years ago, Tischauser began her craft work in earnest. This is her second year at the St. James craft fair. She also goes to the craft fair at St. Martin Church in Clintonville. After a while the crafters get a following. “They look for me,” Tischauser said. “The dish towels are my biggest seller.” One towel can take three to four hours. Tischauser makes a set of seven to sell. She gets her flour sacks from Fleet Farm and her patterns from various pattern publications. “I’m always looking for new things,” she said. Her time will now be spent making items for the Iola craft sale in February. Tischauser grew up in Tigerton, graduating from high school there. She worked for Wausau Insurance, eventually getting sent to Georgia for five years. She returned to Appleton for a few years, then moved back to the Big Falls area where she continued working in insurance at Sentry in Stevens Point. Tischauser and her husband, Herman ’Corky’, who worked for the Menasha Corporation, live in a log home. She takes care of the yard work in the summer. The couple likes to camp by Berry Lake in their motorhome.
