‘Christine’ creates a mega-mess

By Donna Hobscheid, Leader Reporter

As winds howled and snow blew, county and city crews were out Thursday keeping the streets clean.

City Hall and the Shawano City-County Library closed at 1 p.m. Library employees said it was quiet Thursday morning, giving them time to review notes for a new library computer system that is expected to go live on Tuesday morning. The library will be closed Monday for the final installation.

Employees at the county court house had to wait another hour, but finally got an e-mail that they could leave at 2 p.m. ThedaCare Clinic also closed around 2 p.m. Other area businesses had closed early as well.

At 3 p.m., Chad Hoffman, owner of Jungle Music, said he was about to head out to shovel the walk in front of his store — for the seventh time.

Shawano Public Works director Rick Stautz said he had made sure all the garbage had been collected as quickly as possible Thursday so his crew was available to plow streets.

“This will probably be bigger than anything we’ve had up to this time,” Stautz said Thursday morning.
