Rodeo action in store Saturday By Nathan Falk, Leader ReporterA new addition to the Shawano County Fair this year is sure to bring excitement for rodeo enthusiasts. This is the first year that the WRCA Rodeo (Wisconsin Rodeo Cowboys Association) will make an appearance at the fair, scheduled for two shows on Saturday at 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. Rod Christensen, 4-H Horse Key Committee member and event organizer, said attendees can expect much of the same from this rodeo as the one held in mid-June at the fairgrounds. "They are getting down to finals for the year end, so just like in racing -- they are after points, and after the big buckle and cash at the end of the year," Christensen said. "This is the last one until they have rodeo finals, scheduled for Sept. 13 and 14." The rodeo will include nine different events -- barrel racing, bull riding, team roping, calf roping, bareback riding, steer wrestling, saddle-bronco riding, breakaway roping, and a special calf roping event for riders over 40 years old. "There will be different riders for each show," said Christensen. "It should be very exciting, and we hope to see everyone there." In addition to the rodeo, the Shawano County 4-H drill team will be presenting their act prior to each show. The team is comprised of 4-H members who have been working together for the past year. n The rodeo begins at 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, and the show is expected to last just over two hours. The Shawano County 4-H drill team will be performing during the half-hour prior to each show. Tickets for each show are $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 6-12, and admission is free for children under age 5. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 1-866-715-6532 or 715-526-5419.
